Baraa and Rola, Registered Dietitians in Lebanon!

February 19, 2016

What is a Registered Dietitian (RD)?

Registered dietitians (RD) in the United States (US) are trained nutrition professionals that translate the science of nutrition into practical simple practices to the community. To become an RD, the nutrition professional has to meet strict standards set by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).

Becoming a US Registered Dietitian was previously impossible in Lebanon unless you complete some additional courses as well as a 9 month Coordinated Program Internship and sit for the RD exam in the US or other countries accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Luckily, the American University of Beirut’s Agriculture and Food Science Faculty has been accredited in 2013 by ACEND which allows the top nutrition students of that year and beyond to sit for the RD exam.

This brings us to our two recently certified US  registered dietitians Baraa El Sabbagh and Rola Ghaddar. Other than their Lebanese License to practice that allows them to work in health clinics, hospitals, fitness centers, universities, food management, food industry and research and private practice within Lebanon, their RD certification allows them to work in most countries around the world. In order to keep their certification, Baraa and Rola are required to stay up to date and will be continuing education year to year.

The Healthy Happy Us team is looking forward to continue further with developing their certifications and credentials to serve you better.
